Introducing baby to savoury tastes?

My youngest is having her first tastes of solid food at the moment and has a real sweet tooth. How do I encourage vegetables? I've been mixing half a rusk of a bit of steamed apple into her food but she still doesn't seem as keen! Any tips or tried and tested recipes?

Once i had introduce basic purees i used to mix sweet and savoury together such as carrot with a tiny bit of apple, i also used things like cauliflower cheese so that the vegetables were a bit more appealing. I used one of the Annabel Karmel books for inspiration. Oh and keep trying it can take a few attempts for baby to accept. Hope this helps. Good luck

Thanks, I tried mixing a little bit of fruit and rusk with her dinner last night and she ate it all :) I find if I mix with milk rather than water she seems to like this too.

I found that sweet potato was great, you could add allsorts to it. It has a good gloppy texture when mashed with a little milk, a hint of sweetness if your child has a sweet tooth (or gums lolx) mine liked it with a hint of nutmeg or mild curry powder! x The annabel karmels book is great also! she has great ideas through all the stages.

I find carrot is good as it's naturally quite sweet so it's a good transition to savoury flavours.

sweet potato is wonderful. You can mix it with carrot or butternut. I combined it with peas too! Pear works well with most veg as does apple. My daughter has very odd tastes for a small child and so I was extremely lucky. If she was allowed, she would eat olives for breakfast! :)

Sweet veg are a great place to start. Then start combining them with less sweet vegetables or a carb such as mashed rice or potato. We curried a lot of vegetables to start with - a simple lentil dahl was always a favourite and then you can add raisins to sweeten it if they need it.
